Castle keep
The castle stands on a steep sided promontory overlooking the River Tyne. The site has been occupied for almost 2000 years .A Roman fort, Pons Aelius, stood there, guarding the river crossing below From the middle of the 2nd century until the beginning of the 5th century. From the 8th century the site was used as a Christian cemetery. The first castle built there was the New Castle upon Tyne which was founded in 1080 by Robert Curthose who was the eldest son of William the Conqueror. It was rebuilt in stone during the reign of Henry II between 1168 and 1178. During the 13th century the additions were made to the castle, particularly during the reign of King John (1207-1216). A barbican, now known as the Black Gate was added to the north gate in the reign of Henry III between 1247 and 1250. The town was finished in the mid 14th century and the castle was then isolated within the new defenses it then became militarily redundant. The castle was leased by James I to one of his courtiers in 1618, Alexander Stephenson he allowed houses to be built within the castle walls. Briefly the castle was refortified at the time of the civil war, and in 1644 was the last stronghold of the Royalist defenders during the siege. From the 19th century and continuing to the present day the remaining castle walls and buildings have been under restoration.

The Stanley Hotel
The Stanley Hotel is in Estes Park, Colorado it is a 138 room hotel which has amazing view of the Rocky Mountain National Park. The Hotel was opened in 1909 by American businessman, Freelan Oscar Stanley. Stanley suffered from Tuberculosis in 1903 and was asked to move west in order to help his recovery, while staying in a log cabin in Estes Park he instantly loved the area and he decided to build The Stanley Hotel there.
The Haunted Stanley Hotel
The Stanley Hotel has many stories but no of which have been violent, so it appears that the ghostly residents are just that, residents. Hotel workers and guests have commented on hearing the piano in the Ballroom being played, when it is investigated no one was found at the piano or even in the Ballroom. The employees of The Stanley Hotel believe that it is the wife of Mr Stanley that is the ghostly piano player.
Room 418 is said to have the most paranormal activity and the full 4th floor has the majority of the paranormal activity, the sound of children playing in the halls has been heard on a few occasions even though there have been no children around. There are reports of people seeing a man standing in their rooms and then running into the rooms closet, others have said they have seen someone standing in the middle of there room and then just disappearing.

The most prolific story to date is the one from GhostHunters TV show, while the camera crew were changing the tapes in their cameras a table had jumped two feet into the air! Now this would have been great evidence if caught on camera. Also, Ghost Hunter Jason stayed in the room of which a spirit stealing from guests is said to stay during the night he claims that the bed moved, closet doors locked and unlocked and his glass at the side of his bed cracked open from the inside.
I have been looking around for some stories about The Stanley Hotel and here is one that sticks out. A person was on a ghost tour of the hotel and happened to take this picture just out side the hotel. As you can see the window has a child at it, but the figure is very hazy when it shouldn’t be because that window is actually opened. The person that took the photo investigated into this photo and called the hotel. This is the response he got:

Ghosts
In traditional belief, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a deceased person or animal that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely: The mode of manifestation can range from an invisible presence to translucent or wispy shapes, to realistic, life-like visions. The deliberate attempt to contact the spirit of a deceased person is known as necromancy, or in spiritism as a séance.
The belief in manifestations of the spirits of the dead is widespread, dating back to animism or ancestor worship in pre-literate cultures. Certain religious practices—funeral rites, exorcisms, and some practices of spiritualism and ritual magic—are specifically designed to appease the spirits of the dead. Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences that haunt particular locations, objects, or people they were associated with in life, though stories of phantom armies, ghost trains, phantom ships, and even ghost animals and numbers have also been recounted

The Location
Castle Menzies is a spectacular sixteenth century castle which was restored by the Menzies Clan Society. Seat of the Chiefs of Clan Menzies for over 400 years and importantly situated, it was involved in the turbulant history of the Highlands. Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Stuart Pretender to the throne, rested for two nights in the Castle on his way to the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The restoration of the ancient part of the castle involved the demolition of a greatly decayed 18th century wing. Architecturally fascinating, it is a splendid example of the transition between earlier rugged fortress and later mansion house.
The castle, like many other historical Scottish buildings, has been the subject of much in the way of past reported paranormal activity. These reports include activity in the form of a man shouting near the chief's bedroom, children heard laughing, whistling, footsteps, the wail of a cat, a boy seen running up and down the main stairs, a man spotted in the chiefs bedroom and three women in the meat cellar who do no seem particularly nice..... This is just a snippet of the reported paranormal activity that has occurred in Castle Menzies. Please join us for a night of paranormal investigation as we attempt to increase those reports!
